For Keith Mallett creating African American Artwork is a spiritual journey. His interest in art stems from his early childhood and has grown with intensity until today. Keith's artistic skills can be listed as a painter, etcher and African ceramic artist. His subject themes range from still-lifes to abstracts with notable focus on Black Family Art.
Many fans have refered to his work as "Black Love Art" due to the constant sense of self-love and pride depicted in his Black American Art. In recent years he has devoted his talents to themes that portray the beauty and strength of the African American experience.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1948, Keith studied painting at the Art Students’ League and Hunter College in New York City and LA Valley College in Los Angeles.
A variety of television shows and movies, including Showtime’s new series “Soul Food”, Disney’s “The Famous Jett Jackson”, TNT’s “Second String” and Woody Allen’s “Celebrity”, have featured Keith’s African American artwork and African American Art Paintings.
His Black fine art paintings grace the covers of several books including “Do Unto Others” by Kristin Lattany published by Random House, and “Sisterfire”, a collection of African American and Black poetry by Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, and Terry McMillan, published by Harper Collins.
He was the only African American fine artist who was honored with a commission to paint the official limited edition Afrocentric print commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic breakthrough into major league baseball.
His line of limited edition Black figurines and African scupltures are published by United Treasures due to their Black Art History value. He has also enjoyed considerable success with numerous sold-out African American limited editions. His purpose and passion as an ethnic artist is expressed best by his quote: “It is my desire through my artwork to depict the positive aspects of the African American experience. If I can show but one child the strength and beauty of her past or the bright hope of his future then I feel I have accomplished my goal.”
